SOME STRIKING POINTS......DID YOU NOTICE THEM ????

Some of the startling facts which hit me were during the recent terror attacks when I sifted through Shobha De's column were as follows. I have selected the striking ones :

1. Our city fathers have learnt nothing from the past blows to the gut. There was no one in charge when the city most needed a figure capable of leading from the front.

2. I hate to blame him, but the CM showed up outside the Trident when the crisis was nearly over.

3. With whom did the buck stop ??

4. We need to pay immediate attention to the requirements of our over burdened police force-those poor constables armed with nothing more lethal than laathis cant chase a rabid dog, forget about hard core, armed terrorists.

5. The police lack basic gear-helmets, bullet proof jackets, riot shields.

6. Minor politico move around with a convoy of police cars, security personnel, ambulances etc. Such privileges must be withdrawn and reserved for top ranking politicians only.

7. Where were our MPs ?? Priya Dutt, Milind Deora, Govinda, Hema Malini, Jaya Bachchan, our Mayor, Sheriff, Raj Thackeray, Uddhav Thackeray and Chhagan Bhujbal, the usual do gooders, one sees on TV panel discussions, so called activists, thought leaders and influence peddlers ??

8. The ones who deserve credit are the cops, the army, the commandos, tireless journos, magnificent hotel employees and guests of the hotel along with the BEST buses.

9. Mumbai is hemorrhaging and political tourniquets cannot save us. Radical surgery is required on the mighty heart of this great metropolis.

10. The "Spirit of Mumbai" tag is complete hogwash. I am not going to be the sentimental fool and holler "Salaam Mumbai' or 'What great people does this city have !! " or " We are the comeback kings".

Its time to shout, holler, "Wake up Mumbai and India". Fight back, fight back, fight back in a controlled way and make yourselves heard via controlled aggression. We will succeed for sure....

I buy this version. The biggest point that sucks is "there was no one leading the mission" no coordination, no sync... whats this? a mockery i guess. In spate of the series of regular terrorist attacks we definitely need to rebuke the system. And I think I have found the way. being an online citizen journalist. We can come up and report things as a cj online and CNNIBN will take care of the rest. While surfing net I figured out people are really terrorized in fact apprehensive of the security system. Even IIT is seen to be a potential target now...
The worse part is their is no systematic approach to produce a detailed report of the events that led to suchh a catastrophe. I was amazed to see a today on NAT GEO 8pm about a complete documentary about 9/11 attacks. They know exactly who were the terrorists, how they entered, who assisted them, when they called their wives even where they stayed in new york. Their after ground zero reporting was amazing. Why is this not a case in India? an appalling irony...
I see a serious flaw in the Indian security system over the deployment of advanced technology for countering terrorism. Lets take cue. FBI has developed an array of very special and elite technological equipments that they use against terrorists. I am just listing a few which I think are most important keeping in mind the very very unfortunate attack in Mumbai.
1) A ranger bullet that spreads its teethed claws, meant to destroy target, not just to pierce it. Just imagine how useful it can be to deal with a terrorist out on a mindless killing spree.
2) A system of infrared goggles that can look even through the dense smoke. Police first fires the smoke gun, and then is able to view the target(terrorist) through these goggles.
3) Specially designed complete body suits that masks even the face with artificial oxygen source to avoid poisonous smoke. Hiding their faces and providing at least some cover against bullets. FBI has maintained a balance of utility and ease of use in these suits.
4) Enriched radio system that allow simultaneous communication to commandos at ground zero and hawkeyes
5) Needless to say electronic weapons that have modern facilities.

Those terrorists were laced with good amount of niche arms and ammunition. I am dead sure our government can deploy much better and advanced technology. I think Indian NSG commandos are the bravest of them all. They just require a deadly combo of best technology and renewed training involving a know how of them. Lets hope the able armed forces of our country take cue or if required, even support of FBI in this changeover.

Abhik! A great news! From today (2/12/2008) Delhi metro rail system have deployed X Ray Machines to scan baggage. It was a sight of great relief that delhi gov has taken some quick and concrete measures to safeguard daily commuters like me. An aftermath of the unfortunate Mumbai attacks I guess...
